The Berns Company was founded by George Berns and his brother Walter Berns in 1955. George's son Steve Berns now in his 50's, grew up in the industrial surplus business. Remaining in Long Beach, he attended the University of Long Beach receiving a degree in business. Steve is the President of Berns Brothers Inc. dba The Berns Company and BT Equipment Company.
During the 1950's and 1960's Berns primarily bought and sold new surplus from the United States Government. In the late 1960's, The Berns Company purchased a gear manufacturing company and began manufacturing Drive Train Components for the material handling, construction, forestry and mining industries. Over the last 57 years, the company has grown to six warehouses and one of the the largest inventories of material handling replacement parts and components in the world. The Berns group of companies now employs 40 individuals. The Berns Company has become a major wholesale supplier to Original Equipment Manufacturers such as Clark Material Handling, Nacco-Hyster-Yale, Tug Technologies and other OEM's.
Today, The Berns Company continues to be the largest material handling surplus buyer in the world. We continue to buy inventories daily. Gary Kirpluk is The Berns Company's specialist in drive- train components and parts. Gary was in the Navy and was a former parts manager at Toyota. He has spent the last 10+ years at Berns. He has a thorough knowledge of all drive axle, steering drive axle and brake parts from every supplier. Jaime' Guia is The Berns Company's parts & used parts manager. Jaime started out dismantling trucks 20 years ago and has the hands on knowledge to help you through even the most hard to understand problems with identification of parts for all makes of lift trucks.
Lewis Mangold has been with The Berns Company 20 years. Lewis is familiar with all aspects of the company. Lewis is a former M60 Gunner as well as a repelling and jungle expert with A Co. 1st. 504 ABN. INF based out of fort Bragg North Carolina. At 60 Lewis just received his Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do. The Berns Company's tremendous inventory cuts across the board with its product line. Our coverage is amazing and goes from the "hard to find" through the obscure, to the most current. The Berns Company rebuilds and stocks transmissions, differentials, steering gears, steer axles, hydraulic pumps, valves, power steering & tilt cylinders. Depending on the customer needs, The Berns Company can produce off the shelf parts or components or rebuild the customers. We see requirements primarily for forklifts and towing tractors. However, it is not uncommon to see components for cranes, loaders and heavy trucks.
