The Berns Company was founded by George Berns in 1955. George's son Steve Berns now in his late 40's, grew up in the industrial
surplus business. Remaining in Long Beach, he attended the University
of Long Beach receiving a degree in business. Most of his business
education has been attained on the job over the last 30 years at The
Berns Company.
During the 1950's and 60's the business primarily bought and sold new
surplus from the United States Government. In the late 60's, The Berns
Company purchased a gear manufacturing company and began manufacturing
Drive Train Components for the material handling, construction,
forestry and mining industries. Over the last 30 years, the company has
grown to six warehouses and one of the the largest inventories of
material handling replacement parts and components in the world. The
Berns group of companies now employs 40 individuals. The Berns Company
has become a major wholesale supplier to Original Equipment
Manufacturers such as Clark Material Handling, Nacco-Hyster-Yale and
others.
Today, The Berns Company continues to be one of the largest material
handling surplus buyers in the world. We continue to buy inventories
daily. Inventory disposal management is key to helping our customers
save money. Our surplus inventory is currently over 500,000 line items.
The Berns Company currently manufactures in excess of 12,000
aftermarket replacement parts. This large inventory offers our

Dale has 20 years experience buying and selling new and wholesale
machinery. Dale is a graduate of The University of Southern California

The Berns Company's tremendous inventory cuts across the board with its
product line. Our coverage is amazing and goes from the "hard to find"
through the obscure, to the most current.
The Berns Company's on site rebuild facility is involved in rebuilding
transmissions, differentials, steering gears, pumps, valves, power
steering and tilt cylinders and steering axles. Depending on the
customer needs, The Berns Company can produce off the shelf parts or
components or rebuild the customers. We see requirements primarily for
forklifts and towing tractors. However, it is not uncommon to see
components for cranes, loaders and heavy trucks.
Service parts are the thrust of The Berns Company's business. It makes
up to 80% of all sales. Along with our surplus and aftermarket
replacements, The Berns Company is a warehouse distributor for 85
different original parts manufacturers.
